Panorama of Uznachberg Switzerland

Image
Created from several original photos stitched together and then worked into using photoshop filters and digital hand painting to achieve a fantastic watercolor effect. I love working this way as it gives a great painterly result but with great control over all the broad elements and nuances.

The Mythen mountains peaks from the Sattel pass

Image
The Mythen mountain peaks as seen from the Sattel pass early morning in mid-October. The sun was positioned right behind the Grosser Mythen as I took this picture with my Lumia phone. From the photo I modified in Photoshop with watercolor and artistic filters, adding some splatter and brushstrokes to finish the image.

Early on the mooreland

New Creative! View of the moorland in the high valley of the Biber, the plain between Rothenthurm and Biberbrugg in central Switzerland. This view was early morning in mid-October. Medium: Digital painting from my original photo, apps: Painter, Photoshop.

Landscape over the Wägitalersee

New sketch! I recently finished a sketch from the on-site impression I made a few years back. This is the view from Chli 'small' Aubrig, a small (by Swiss standards) mountain we see from Schmerikon across the Obersee. Swipe left to see the field version, sketch pens used, and my best pict of the view. Medium: pens with watercolor sketch pens of cool and warm grays. A selection of the art pens I used for the final presentation. Sketch made 'in the field' perched on the Chli Aubrig mountain.

Old Savognin Bridge This single lane old bridge was the only link between upper and lower Savognin for hundreds of years. As numerous seasons passed and the thousands traveled across it, it withstood and offered it's service to cross safely, so here I painted it center stage in a quiet celebration of it's unannounced achievement. For this water color sketch I painted from location.

Alp Flix 1 Numerous small chapels dot the high alpine alps in Graubunden.  Like lone sentinels in a greater cathedral of magical nature they echo the feeling of unimportance and fragility one finds when comprehending such a fantastic vista. A small house within the larger House, the builders understood the paradigm. For this water color sketch I painted from location. Medium: watercolor on paper

China Still Life While visiting B allenberg the living museum in central Switzerland I was stuck by the austerity of this simple set up of traditional tableware. The whole scene feels stark, with each member of the matching set feeling isolated and separated yet still placed in a group together. For the painting I worked up the details to capture life like representation on the china, but left other areas like the table and cloth a little undone. I used digital bristle brushes for the most part with some finer soft brushes on the details. Medium: Digital hand painting  emulating oil paint. Click image for detail
